As part of our recognition of Asian American Heritage Month, HLSA-DC is hosting a virtual conversation with HLS alumna Sussan Lee, the Senior Federal Policy Advisor at the New York City Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, and Nancy Yoon, a founder of Asians in LA (@AsiansinLA), a social network of Asian American influencers in politics, entertainment, and community non-profits.

 

The conversation will start at 6:15 p.m. and be followed by an HLS Alumni Prime Video Watch Party of Minari at 7:15 p.m.  Zoom conference information will be provided to all pre-registered participants.  (Register usiminari.oscar_.namastehallyung the form on the left of the page.)

 

 

Please note you will need to be a member of Amazon Prime and to rent Minari on Amazon before joining the HLSA-DC Watch Party. HLSA-DC is pleased to be able to partially subsidize the movie rental fee for those who join the Watch Party; we will provide details to attendees.

 

Sussan Lee isussan-lees a proud first generation Korean American immigrant who moved to the U.S. when she was nine years old. She started her legal career as an immigration attorney at the MinKwon Center for Community Action, assisting Korean and Chinese immigrant community in the greater NYC area. Sussan has also provided immigration consequences advice and handled post-conviction relief cases at public defender offices serving the Queens, Manhattan, and Bronx communities. Currently, she is the Senior Federal Policy Advisor at the New York City Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs. She also serves as the co-chair of the board of United We Dream, the largest immigrant youth-led advocacy organization in the country. Sussan is a graduate of Harvard College (AB '09), University of Oxford (M.Sc.), and Harvard Law School (JD '15). 

 

Nancy Yoon is thnancy-yoone AAPI publicist for the Oscar-winning movie, “Minari”.  She is the founder of “Asians in LA” (@AsiansinLA), a social network of Asian American influencers in politics, entertainment and community nonprofits, and Yooniq Media, a PR media agency for the Asian American community in Southern California.  Yoon is also a diversity storyteller, actor, TV host, and digital content producer.  She and her Austrian husband co-founded Europeans in LA, one of the largest social networks of Europeans in Los Angeles. As an Asian American influencer and community leader, Nancy is helping to push for diversity and inclusion for minorities, including Asian Americans and women, in entertainment, corporations, and boards.
