A conversation with

Former U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-AL)

Date: Wednesday, April 12, 2023

Time: 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Location: via Zoom
Register via HLSA of San Diego

Senator Jones, a 1979 graduate of the Cumberland School of Law, served in the U.S. Senate from January 2018 – January 3, 2021. Prior to his service in the Senate, Jones was best known for prosecuting and obtaining the conviction of two of the former Ku Klux Klansmen responsible for the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in 2001 and 2002. Our conversation with this truly historic figure will focus on Senator Jones’s career before, during, and after his service in the Senate, including:

  • His campaign for the U.S. Senate against former Chief Justice of Alabama Roy Moore;
  • His role in considering and voting on the Supreme Court nominations of Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett;
  • His role as a member of the Senate “jury” in the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump;
  • What it was like to shepherd the Supreme Court nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson ’96 through the U.S. Senate.
