HLSA-D.C. and HLSA-Mass featuring Hon. Barry White as moderator
and a stellar expert panel lineup.

This is the third annual program on lawyer mental and behavioral health issues presented jointly by the Harvard Law School Association of Massachussetts and the Harvard Law School Association of D.C.

The goal of the program is to help to destigmatize discussions about mental and behavioral health issues that lawyers face during their career and to encourage lawyers to use support resources available through the bar association, their HR departments in the private sector or government, or to seek assistance from their health care providers.

Panelists

Hon. Barry White, Moderator

Barry White. Mr. White is the former Ambassador to Norway, serving from 2009 to 2013. Previously, Ambassador White served as the CEO of Foley Hoag, LLP and chair of Lex Mundi, an international association of law firms. He also serves as the Chair of the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health. As the Chair of the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health, he has been active in supporting reforms in the mental health and behavioral health fields in the Commonwealth. Ambassador White is a graduate of HLS and Harvard College.


  • Douglas J. Farmer, Panelist

    Mr. Farmer is a shareholder in the San Francisco office of the Ogletree law firm which he founded. He has dedicated his career to achieving practical business solutions for clients, including compliance programs for disability accommodation, leaves of absence, and discrimination prevention. Mr. Farmer has been recognized as one of the nation’s leading employment lawyers in a variety of publications, and was elected a Fellow of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers for his contributions to the legal profession. His book, California Employment Law, has been nationally recognized in the business and legal community for its approach to resolving workplace legal issues. Mr. Farmer is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Harvard College.

Kami Sidman, Panelist

Ms. Sidman is a board-certified Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. She is the founder of Compassionate Therapy Center, a private therapy and tele-therapy practice specializing in helping high-achieving, perfectionistic, and creative individuals to develop a more compassionate approach to themselves and more fulfilling relationships with others. Kami has worked at two universities as a law school director of wellness, law career advisor, and mental health counselor. Kami has a master’s degree in counseling from Virginia Tech, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley.

  • Stacey Best, Panelist

    Ms. Best joined Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers (LCL) in 2021 as the Executive Director. Stacey represents and participates with key stakeholders at various agencies and Committees of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (SJC), including the SJC Standing Committee on Lawyer Well-Being, the Board of Bar Overseers (“BBO”), and the Standing Advisory Committee on Professionalism. Stacey joined LCL after spending 18 years with the BBO and the Office of Bar Counsel. At the BBO, Stacey investigated alleged violations of the Rules of Professional Conduct and litigated all stages of the disciplinary proceedings including all appeals. Stacey, a Boston College Law school graduate, is a “transplant” from California to the Boston, Massachusetts area. When not working, she enjoys gardening, fishing, cooking, and riding her Harley.
