Conversation with Congressman Glenn Ivey
In-person public sector fireside chat
Congressman Glenn Ivey (link to House bio) is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Maryland’s 4th District. He is an HLS ’86 alum with an undergraduate degree from Princeton. Glenn has practiced law at several D.C. and Baltimore based law firms. Additionally, he has served in a number of public sector roles including as: Hill staffer for Congressman John Conyers; Assistant U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C.; Majority staff counsel for the U.S. Senate Banking Committee Chairman, Don Riegle, special lead counsel for Senator Paul Sarbanes on several high profile investigations; and Chief Counsel to Senate Democratic leader, Tom Daschle. Ivey was appointed as the Chair of the Maryland Public Service Commission and was heavily involved in the deregulation of the MD electric power industry.
Ivey ran successfully to serve as the Prince George’s county state’s attorney and was reelected to that role. After practicing law, Glenn ran for Congress and was elected in 2022. In the House, he serves on the Committee on Ethics and serves on the Committee on Appropriations including the subcommittees on financial services and commerce, justice, science and related agencies.
Notably, Ivey served as a past president of the HLSA-DC and taught trial advocacy at HLS during the winter terms from 2013 to 2021. He also taught at the University of Maryland School of Law from 1995 to 2014.
